Scott Kennedy, Chair

Cornerstone Architecture

Scott is a Principal of Cornerstone Architecture, a professional engineer, trained in the International Passive House Standard, as well as a graduate of the UBC School of Architecture. Cornerstone Architecture is currently designing two multi-family projects in Vancouver to be certified to the International Passive House standard. He is committed to design strategies that minimize life-cycle energy use.

André Harrmann, Vice Chair

UBC | Harrmann Consulting

André holds graduate degrees from German and U.S. universities in engineering and architecture. He is a Certified Passive House Designer (CPHD) and Passive House trainer. With CertiPHIers Cooperative and Harrmann Consulting he provides design support, energy modelling and certification services for Passive House projects in Canada. As Project Manager for the University of British Columbia (UBC) he facilitates construction projects to achieve UBC’s energy conservation targets.

Marcel Studer, Treasurer

Econ Group Limited

Marcel Studer is a principal of Econ Group Ltd, a Vancouver based construction firm with a strong focus on modern, high quality architecture designed to the International Passive House Standard. Holding a Masters Degree in Architecture from the Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich (Switzerland), Marcel has lived and worked in Canada for the last 15 years. Marcel completed the Passive House Design course in 2011 and has been involved in multiple PH projects in and around Vancouver as a project manager, consultant or designer.

Lydia Hunter, Secretary

Durfeld Constructors/ BC Passive House

Lydia graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in Environmental Geography. Through this degree Mrs. Hunter developed a keen interest in sustainable development and has furthered her studies on this topic through Royal Roads University. Prior to joining Dürfeld Constructors / BC Passive House, Mrs. Hunter worked as an Environmental Technician with Cascade Environmental Resource Group. Lydia provides marketing, education and research support for BC Passive House.

Dr. Guido Wimmers

UNBC

Guido holds a master in engineering and architecture and a PhD in building science. Prior to moving to Canada in 2007 he worked as a consultant designing and building Passive Houses in Austria, Germany, and Italy. He is one of the initiators of Canada’s first official Passive House in Whistler and has since then worked on Passive House projects all across Canada. Guido is also co-author of the Passive Design Tool Kit of the City of Vancouver and a founding director of the Canadian Passive House Institute.

Crystal Bueckert

BLDG STUDIO INC.

Crystal has a background in fine arts and building, and has been around construction and house plan catalogues since an early age due to her family’s contracting company. In 2011 she founded Bldg Studio Inc., a Saskatoon design studio with a keen interest in green building practices and modern architecture. The company’s mission is to be a leader in residential design and drafting standards by providing modern, sustainable designs for Saskatoon and surrounding area.

Andrew Peel

Andrew is a seasoned Passive House trainer, consultant, and Canada’s only building certifier accredited by the German Passive House Institute. His professional and academic experience ranges from consultancy, programme management, technical and non-technical articles and publications, course and lecture delivery, and technical research. He has been delivery high quality educational courses for over 17 years, including 7 years of Passive House training.

Monte Paulsen

Monte is a Certified Energy Advisor and Certified Passive House Consultant based at Red Door’s Vancouver office. He is one of Canada’s most active Passive House consultants and has advised projects including a First Nations firehall, two multi-story apartment buildings, a modular row-house terrace and several single-family residences being constructed to the international Passive House standard.

Michael Nemeth

Michael’s background as a mechanical consulting engineer and green building designer brought him to the realization that, in terms of affordability and sustainability, we need to do a lot better with our buildings. Since that moment of clarity, Michael has been studying the Passive House standard and learning how to best apply its principles as he develops a Passive House consultancy in Saskatoon, building networks, encouraging collaboration and getting projects built. In April 2015 was named by Corporate Knights magazine as one of Canada’s top sustainability leaders under 30.
